Are Americans More Interested in the Super Bowl or Valentine's Day? |
According to a recent survey by the Marist National Poll, Americans are showing more enthusiasm for Sunday's Super Bowl than the upcoming Valentine's Day holiday. The poll, which was released on Thursday, asked respondents which February event they were more excited about. It turns out that more people are looking forward to the Super Bowl matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas, compared to the romantic holiday later in the week.
Just under 50 percent of the respondents expressed greater excitement for the NFL game, showing a slight increase from last year's response to the same question, rising to 48 percent from 45 percent. On the other hand, about 37 percent said they were more interested in Valentine's Day activities, while 14 percent stated that they weren't particularly excited about either upcoming event.
Interestingly, men were more likely to express excitement about the Super Bowl than women, though the margin wasn't substantial. Over 55 percent of men indicated excitement about the game, while 40 percent of female respondents shared the sentiment. Conversely, women showed more interest in Valentine's Day, with 44 percent looking forward to the love-themed holiday compared to 29 percent of men, according to the Marist survey.
Additionally, the survey revealed that while all age groups tended to favor the Super Bowl, respondents under 30 were the most evenly split. Roughly 46 percent of individuals under 30 expressed a preference for the Super Bowl, while 42 percent leaned towards Valentine's Day.
Overall, the Super Bowl emerged as the more popular event across the country, with the Midwest showing the highest level of excitement compared to other regions, as per the poll.
The Marist survey was conducted from January 29 to February 1 among 1,582 respondents and has a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points.
