How a Humanoid Robot Learned to Make Coffee by Watching Videos

Imagine this: a robot making you a cup of coffee just by watching a video of a person doing it. It might sound unbelievable, but it's true.

Thanks to a big step forward in artificial intelligence, robots that look like humans can now learn from us, just like we learn from each other.

The company behind this cool tech is Figure. They created a humanoid robot called Figure-01 that can walk, talk, and learn new things by watching videos.

Recently, Figure showed off how Figure-01 can use a Keurig machine to make coffee. They did it at their headquarters in San Francisco. A person asked Figure-01 to make coffee, and the robot said, "Sure, I can do that!" Then it went to the Keurig machine.

The robot had watched a video of someone else making coffee with the same machine. It learned how to copy their moves. It used its eyes to see the machine and its parts, and its brain to plan its moves.

The robot opened the machine, put in the coffee pod, closed it, and pressed the button all by itself. Then it waited for the coffee to be ready and let the person take the cup.

It did everything in less than a minute, without any help from humans. It learned from the video and did the task on its own. It's a type of AI where the robot learns from videos and does the actions.

This demonstration wasn't just cool; it was important. It showed that Figure-01 can learn new things all by itself. And it can teach other robots too, without them needing to watch the video themselves. This makes learning faster and lets robots share what they know.

This way of learning can be used for lots of different tasks. Figure-01 could learn to do all sorts of things, like peeling bananas or using tools, just by watching videos. It can also learn why and how to do things, and adapt to different situations.

And this is just the start. Figure says Figure-01 can learn anything from videos and they're always making it better. They want it to be more flexible, creative, and able to work with others.

Imagine if Figure-01 could go to the kitchen, check the Keurig, make coffee, and bring it to you without spilling, all from watching videos. This could be the future of robots, and it's not too far away.
